From Sedentary to Active: A Journey of Transformation

  •  The journey begins with Sara: an accountant from Islamabad, Pakistan aged 40 years. Much of her grown-up life was spent leading a sedentary life. Work consumed most of Sara’s time and her family required more duties from her; thus, she would not engage in physical activities or exercise regularly. She usually felt tired, lacked energy, and realized that her health was deteriorating.

  • The motivation stage came when during one of the regular checkups, Sara’s doctor expressed concern over her weight gain as well as rising blood pressure. Afraid of contracting diseases like diabetes and heart disease, she knew that something needed to be done differently. It was not only because of her own health but also other reasons such as wanting to be available for children.
  • Sara began noticing positive changes as she kept on pushing herself. This resulted into an increase in levels of energy where she became more alert and focused during the day. Inspired by these first outcomes, she enrolled herself in a beginners’ class held at a local fitness center which helped her out with the right exercising techniques and provided support from other people who were moving through similar challenges.

Overcoming Inertia Challenges

Current Status: Thriving In An Active Lifestyle

  • Thriving in her active lifestyle, Sara thrives today. She wakes up for early morning jogs, does yoga as a means of relaxation and have outdoor activities with her family over the weekend. Her weight has reduced, her blood pressure is stable and she is more self-assured about what her body can do.
